What counts as a dental emergency?
A dental emergency includes severe or persistent tooth pain, a broken or knocked-out tooth, a cracked or lost crown, signs of infection (swelling, fever, abscess), or soft tissue injuries in the mouth. If you're unsure whether your situation is urgent, call us — we're happy to help you assess it over the phone.
Can I be seen the same day?
In most cases, yes. We reserve time in our schedule Monday through Thursday for urgent cases. Call (972) 539-6831 as early in the day as possible, and we'll work to get you in promptly.
What should I do if my tooth breaks?
Rinse your mouth gently with warm water and save any pieces of the tooth if possible. Avoid chewing on that side. If there's bleeding, apply light pressure with gauze. Then call our office — Dr. Prentice can often restore a broken tooth the same day using in-house milling technology.
What if my tooth pain starts at night or on a weekend?
Take over-the-counter pain relief (ibuprofen is usually most effective for dental pain) and avoid very hot or cold foods. Call our office first thing the next business morning — we prioritize urgent cases and will get you in as quickly as possible.
Will my insurance cover emergency dental care?
Most PPO dental plans cover emergency exams and necessary treatment. We work with most major PPO plans and will file claims on your behalf. Our team can help you understand your coverage before treatment begins.
